Mediation

Helping you find the right solution

Going through a divorce is an incredibly difficult time in a person’s life. There are many unknowns and many concerns that both parties naturally have. Through the mediation services at Hanks & Peterson, we strive to provide an atmosphere to allow both parties the opportunity to address their concerns and work toward a mutually agreeable solution, while striving to maintain a workable co-parenting relationship moving forward. Mindi Hansen has chosen to focus her practice on mediation, after being involved in divorce litigation, including complex divorce matters, contempt actions, and post-divorce modifications since 2010. After years of litigation, Mindi saw the incredible benefits that occur when parties are able to reach an agreement through mediation. While Mindi does continue to do some litigation, her goal is to use her years of experience to help parties reach a more amicable resolution through mediation.

Why Mediation?

Divorce mediation is about you and your ex-spouse (or soon-to-be ex-spouse) making your own decisions regarding what is best for both of you and, most importantly, your children. Instead of going to a courtroom and having a judge decide for you, mediation allows you to develop a plan that is agreeable and works for both parties with the help of a mediator in scheduled sessions. This results in the entire process being more efficient—both in cost and time.
Many divorcing couples are not aware of the many issues that need to be addressed in a divorce. As a mediator, I will help you to address the issues that are relevant to your situation. These topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Child Custody and Parent-Time
  2. Division of Property
  3. Division of Debts
  4. Child Support
  5. Alimony
  6. Division of Retirement
  7. Taxes
  8. Parenting Plans

Litigating these issues rarely results in a mutually agreeable decision. However, mediation can provide the parties with the opportunity to explore creative solutions that will work for their situation. Mediation can also help to maintain an amicable and workable co-parenting relationship with your ex-spouse, where litigation regularly increases the tension and conflict between the parties.

What is the Cost of Mediation?

Our mediation services cost $180 per hour. This cost is shared equally between the parties and is due at the conclusion of the mediation session.

Other Types of Matters

Mindi also provides mediation for guardianship matters, trust and probate matters, and contract disputes.
